Last Tuesday, Long Island Assemblyman Michael Fitzpatrick (R) introduced a comprehensive mandate relief bill, which would address mandated provisions that have placed tremendous financial burdens on local government budgets. These include modifying the Triborough Amendment, capping arbitration awards, and putting in place a defined contribution plan for new public employees.
We support the bill and all of the respective members of the Senate and Assembly that sign on to the bill. If New York’s local governments and school districts are going to be able to provide us with the services we need, Albany must provide real mandate reform.
